The Pinscreen was an innovative toy created by Ward Fleming in 1987. An incredibly successful product that allowed children to express themselves onto something that was in itself, a piece of art.

As children we can’t fully comprehend the artistic value of an invention like the Pinscreen, but through tools like that, I came to understand later in life, in a zigzag way, the subtle and important reasons why I believe art is worth doing.

At it’s core, Cambota is a 3 hours long kinetic model that processes the light and contrast of over 200 photos from my childhood to sculpt an active mesh made from 12000 strings of Generative Art.

But developing AI to the point where I find myself removed from the process or the result doesn’t particularly interest me as an artist. I created Cambota from a positive nihilistic perspective: like a child with a Pinscreen, I’m still passionate about it - the process.

Cambota, 2022.
On the 3rd of August, while traveling the Basque Country, I read a letter on a bathroom wall. Underneath it was signed - Jesus.

I smirked. It reminded me of how technology is perceived in contemporary art. I have no vanity about technology, but I’m always looking for a new chisel to work with.
